Melty Nutritional Yeast "cheese" (vegan)

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 2
  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup vegan margarine
  • 1 teaspoon wet mustard

Recipe

  • 1 mix dry ingredients in a saucepan.
  • 2 whisk in water.
  • 3 cook over med. heat, whisking until it thicken and bubbles.
  • 4 cook 30 seconds, then remove from heat.
  • 5 whip in margarine and mustard.
  • 6 it will thicken as it cools. but will thin when heated or when water is added.
  • 7 variation for richer, stretchier sauce that's good on pizza:.
  • 8 substitute 1/4°c cornstarch and 2 tablespoons flour.
  • 9 instead of margarine, whip in 1/2°c of oil after it cooks.
  • 10 add as much as 1°c water at the end or as needed to make a thick, smooth sauce that pours easily.
  • 11 pour it on pizza for the last few mins of baking.
  • 12 put under broiler for a few mins to form a stretchy, golden-brown speckled skin.
