Red Enchilada Sauce

Total Time: 12 mins Preparation Time: 2 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 ounces tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Recipe

  • 1 combine oil, flour, & chili powder in medium sauce pan.
  • 2 cook on medium heat & whisk ingredients.
  • 3 continue to whisk until sauce bubbles.
  • 4 let cook 1 minute, continue to whisk during this time.
  • 5 after 1 minute whisk in water, tomato paste, cumin, garlic powder, & cayenne pepper.
  • 6 bring to a simmer.
  • 7 remove from heat. add salt, to taste, a quarter teaspoon at a time.
